The Van Tilburg Lectures

Through the generosity of Johannes van Tilburg an annual lectureship has been created at UCLA for the purpose of discussing Dutch history, culture and current events. The first Van Tilburg Lecture was given in 2006 by Wiljan van den Akker, dean of Humanities at Utrecht University. It concerned Dutch poetry in the 20th century. In February 2008 Paul Schnabel, the leading expert on contemporary immigration to The Netherlands lectured on Immigration and the Question of Dutch Identity. In February 2009 Ido de Haan (Utrecht University) will speak about Jews in The Netherlands after 1945. The event is always held in the Faculty Club of UCLA, at Hilgard and Westholme.
